Talk 1: Predictive Maintenance at the Parcel Distribution Center of Post CH AG, Marc Tesch
More than 300,000 parcels a day are processed in the Swiss Post parcel centres. Every technical defect in the 7000 sorting trolleys and portal cranes produces maintenance cost and may result in late delivery of parcels. With specific sensor technology and machine learning, defects in the parcel centre are detected at an early stage and predicted ahead of time.
Biography: Marc Tesch is the managing director of the Bern-based consulting company LeanBI which he founded LeanBI in 2014 with a focus on industry 4.0 and industrial digitization projects. Marc has a PhD in mechanical and process engineering from ETH Zurich and has 20 years of data and analytics consulting experience.
Talk 2: Automated Crack and Wet Area Detection in Tunnels at Amberg Group, Vassilis Kalofolias
Tunnel assessment today is mostly based on a slow and subjective human inspection process. As the total length of tunnels is constantly increasing, it becomes more and more important to guarantee their operation reliability with safe and cost-efficient means. Amberg Technologies and LeanBI have developed a deep-learning based platform for more automated tunnel inspections using image segmentation techniques. The talk will focus on the implications and results of deep learning modelling applied for automatic tunnel evaluation.
Biography: Vassilis Kalofolias is a senior consultant and data scientist at LeanBI for industrial applications of machine learning, predictive maintenance and process automation. He finished his PhD in machine learning at ETH Zurich in 2016 and has broad experience with various machine learning technologies.
