From Transactions to Outcomes - A transformation of the business model

Philipp Schmid, Group Strategic Marketing Manager, SKF

Today, industrial companies are mainly driven by transactional business models. The ongoing digitalization enables suppliers of hardware products to gain more knowledge about the usage of their installed base. This knowledge provides valuable insights that could be exploited to offer their customers added value in addition to their traditional hardware products. Offering additional value comes along with a transformation of the business model. SKF allows us to gain insight into their transformation path.


Philipp is a highly experienced and result-driven Marketing manager & Technical expert at SKF. His work is related to global wind energy and metals industries. He joined SKF in 2008 and holds a diploma in economics and a Bachelor's degree in engineering.

Cultivating an innovation ecosystem - and growing while doing so

Andreas Widmer, Westhive

In an interesting Business Talk, Andreas Widmer, CEO of Westhive, will show Westhive's diverse ecosystem and talk about the new needs of companies for office space and services - and the synergies for start-ups in such an ecosystem.

Data Driven Business: from market analysis to the step itself. As with growth hacking - every start-up has few resources for marketing - Westhive systematically optimizes marketing by continuously measuring, correcting and executing.  


Andreas Widmer is founder and partner of Westhive. Previously he was CEO of Y&R Group Switzerland for many years, which included advertising and internet agencies such as Advico, Wunderman, Futurecom, Exxtra and allaccess. He studied sociology at the University of Zurich.

* Data-Driven Business Models: Meet-an-Expert Sessions

New offering for members: distinct meet-an-expert sessions, where you are able to meet an expert to discuss emerging questions in the realm of “Data-driven Business Models”. D ONE and the Institute of Technology Management (University of St. Gallen) are offering each two slots of about 30 minutes to discuss problems and provide first hints or propositions to solve these. The sessions will take place from 15.30 - 16.30 before the Expert-group event.

To reserve one of these slots, please contact Patrick Buck (patrick.buck@d-one.ai) of D ONE or Philipp Osterrieder (philipp.osterrieder@unisg.ch) from the University of St. Gallen with a brief summary of your situation and problem. You may choose your favorite expert, or we assign the one with the best fit to your question.

Do not hesitate to reach us through mail or telephone and profit from the possibility to meet an expert as part of the Data+Service Alliance. However, be aware that only four slots are available, therefore, first come first serve.
